Stopping Aggressive Cat Behavior Successfully

Stopping aggressive cat behavior successfully can be extremely difficult.  Often times cats will repeat these behaviors so often the seem to be embedded into their psyche.  One of the most important ways to stop aggressive cat behavior is to stop it before the cat even has a chance to misbehave.  Here are some examples on how you can do that!

Aggressive behavior can range anywhere from biting toes, to scratching, to down right attacking people.  Cat owners all seem to have different thresholds of how they define aggressive behavior.  While some cat owners may think a cat is just being playful biting toes, another cat owner might label it as aggressive.

(Side note: Some aggressive cat behavior or personality changes can be due to medical reasons, it is important you have your vet examine your cat)

In order to change the behavior you must interrupt your cat’s mental pattern before they become aggressive.  Many people say they cannot tell when a cat will become aggressive, but like all animals there are certain things that you can pick up on if you observe them more closely.

If a cat approaches you in a certain way, like from the side with its head and tail down you know it is up to something.  So if you see this happening you could throw a pillow or something else that won’t harm the cat at the cat.

What you are trying to do is interrupt the cat’s behavior.

If you interrupt the behavior pattern often enough, eventually it will cease.  Like I said in the previous post one of the big reasons cats continue to act in a bad manner is because they get some reward out of it.

You have to figure out what reward your cat is getting out of this aggressive behavior and stop it.  If your cat is doing this to get attention then don’t give them attention if they are acting badly.

Once you interrupt the cat’s pattern immediately put its focus on something else and use positive reinforcement to make your cat want to do the more positive behavior more often.

I know some things I covered very quickly in this post, but in future posts I hope to expand on this and how to stop aggressive cat behavior.
