Homemade Cat Urine Remover

Homemade cat urine removers can work just as good and even better then commercial cleaners you can buy in the pet store.  Another big advantage of making homemade cat urine cleaners is that you know what ingredients you are putting into it and that they are safe for your cat.  Here is a simple cat urine cleaner that works…

My homemade cat urine remover is made out of of white vinegar, dilute hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda.  This seems very simple, but it works wonders for my carpets.

A word of caution before you use this though.  Be sure to test this formula on a small area of carpet behind your couch first, just in case it discolors your carpet.  I have never had that problem, but test yours just to be on the safe side.

Also remember to use a lot of pressure on the towel when absorbing the cat urine.  This is great because the carpet padding underneath the carpet is where most of the urine is located.

Sometimes I’ll even place a heavy object over the towel and leave it there for the day or over night, just to try and absorb as much urine as possible out of that area.

If you do use a commercial cat urine remover, be sure to avoid ones with ammonia in them.  The smell of ammonia can actually attract cats back to the spot and make them want to mark that area again with urine.
