Cleaning Cat Urine From Carpet
One of the most frustrating things a cat owner can do is to kneel down and try to get cat urine out of carpet. Actually absorbing the urine is the easy part, but how do you go about getting rid of that lingering nasty odor? Also, did you know that if you use the wrong cleaning products your cat may be even more attracted to that area?
The most important part about cleaning up cat urine is to actually remove all traces of odor from that area of the carpet, otherwise a cat will be attracted to that area of the carpet again and will urinate there again.
Also you need to avoid using any cleaners that leave a smell of ammonia behind because ammonia will actually attract the cats to the spot again and encourage them to urinate on the carpet there again.
When you first start to clean the area of carpet that has cat urine, make sure to try and absorb as much cat urine as possible. I like to put down a towel and some paper towels and either stand on them or place a heavy object over them for a while.
This way the urine that is absorbed into the carpet padding has a chance to come out. The carpet padding is where the main problem lays. You can’t see it, but that is where the majority of the urine has been absorbed.
Once you have soaked up as much as possible, place a carpet cleaner mixed with water around the area and again place some paper towels over the area and stand on them again.
Then once you think you have cleaned sufficiently, place an odor neutralizer on the carpet. These can be bought anywhere, and just follow the label instructions.
Remember to focus on the carpet padding underneath and don’t use products that have ammonia in them.
