Cat In Heat Behavior

Some people have trouble telling if their cat is in heat or not.  If you have any doubts as to whether your unspayed cat is in heat then it probably is.  It is even possible for a spayed cat to show signs of heat.  Here are some cat in heat behaviors to look for…

Cats come into heat seasonally, so you do not see it very often and it lasts for many days.

Before Heat

Right before cats come into heat they tend to become very affectionate and will rub up against you and other soft objects like stuffed toys.

She may also lick at her genitals a lot.

In Heat

When the cat is in heat she will vocalize a lot by meowing loudly, essentially calling to male cats who may be in the area.  This will continue until she is either bred or goes out of heat.

Stopping Heat

You can prevent or stop your cat from being in heat by having her spayed or your vet can give her hormones.  Also some vets can stop signs of heat by stimulating the cervix which hormonally makes the cat think that it was bred.

If you don’t plan on breeding your cat make sure you have it spayed.

At what age can cat’s come into heat?

Cats can come into heat as early as 4 months.  It is not recommended to breed them at that age obviously because they have not reached their mature weight yet.

So next time you see cat in heat behavior you know what to look for.
