Breaking Down Cat Behavior Problems

Cat behavior problems can be the most frustrating and heartbreaking things an owner has to deal with.  After trying so many different tips and techniques it seems like there is no hope for a cure.  Before trying to solve the problem, we should look at the two broad categories that cat behavior problems fall into.

The two main categories are feline aggression and litter box problems.  These are two very broad categories that within them hold many specific problems.

Feline Aggression

This category can be the most scary.  While most people classify a cat biting your toes in this category, it also includes down right scary attacks on people.  Cats and do damage quickly to a human if they really want to.  Deep cat bites along can lead to life threatening infections if not treated properly.

This area also includes cat aggression towards other cats, like fighting.  Cats fight with other cats for lots of reasons, dominance, territory, and breeding.

Litter Box Problems

This is the most frustrating areas for owners to deal with because it includes things like urinating and defecating on your bed, not covering its feces, and urinating right on the floor.

The reasons why cats might do this can vary from medical reasons to stressed, like a new house, a new baby, to a time schedule change.

Summary

The first step to solving cat behavior is to identity what is happening, when it is happening, and what is causing it.

While this may sound like an easy thing to do, in multi-cat households it can be very challegening sometimes to do this.

Above all remember that there is a solution out there for you, if you are persistent and try enough variables.  One book that has helped me time and time again is Solutions To Cat Behavior Problems by Dr. Chris.

I bought this book last year, but recently read it again and discovered some new information on why some cats don’t bury their feces.
