7 Ways To Control Litter Box Smells



Litter box smells can really be a embarassing, especially if you live in an apartment or a condo. Even if you live in a large house the smell can become too much.

Cat urine smells because it contains ammonia. Cat food is high in protein, which leads to increased excretion of this ammonia through the urine.

To help control litter box smells here are 7 tips to try:

1. Add More. Buy an additional litter box, because the less they are used, the better able they are to control smells. Also add more litter to pans.  Deeper litter also absorbs more litter.

2. Switch kinds of cat litter. A brand that clumps hard is best. There is a big difference in the quality of odor control between different brands so experiment.

3. Scoop much more frequently.

4. Buy a box of baking soda and mix it in, or buy a brand that already has baking soda in it.

5. Replace all the litter more frequently.

6. Clean more often. Wash out the litter box more frequently with soap and water and clean around the area.

7. Buy an air purifier.
